PMMA - poly(methyl methacrylate)

It is a synthetic polymer of methyl methacrylate and is transparent or translucent. It is often used instead of glass because it is lighter, more resistant to mechanical impacts and harder to break. PMMA can be an economical alternative to polycarbonate (PC), in particular when there is no need for high strength, toughness and resistance to high temperatures.

They offer easy processing and design in production, as well as favourable price, and their disadvantage is embrittlement in case of mechanical overload and deformation of larger surface in comparison to glass. They are used also for medical purposes in car industry, lighting and white goods.
